The Winfield Arts & Humanities Council's mission is to provide all people with programs, opportunities, and knowledge to enrich their lives through the arts.
The Winfield Arts & Humanities Council serves 800-1,000 of the area’s youth during the year with over 120 classes at an affordable price. Ages of those who participate in these classes range from 1-96.
We also offer two galleries that are available to artists to showcase their artwork for a month at no cost. Last year, we had 5,900 people visit these galleries.
Our annual events include:
Mini Music Fest in September (a day prior to the beginning of the Walnut Valley Festival). These performances are free to the public and we have many of the surrounding schools attend.
Art in the Park during the first Saturday in October. Last year we celebrated our 40th year. We have 50-75 fine arts & crafts booths as well as live performances, food booths and free children’s activities. We usually have an attendance of 4000+.
Evening for the Arts is our major fundraiser. We auction off dinners that are hosted by local patrons and restaurants. Last year’s theme was Mardi Gras and we raised a little over $6000.
Kansas Voices Writing Contest, deadline March 15th and reception on May 3rd. We had over 500 entries last year with 143 adults and 56 youth participants.
Kansas Soundscapes Composition Contest, our second year, deadline February 16th. There are two categories: Formal and Song-writing. We had 21 entries, 11 formal and 10 song-writing. The reception will be held April 18th at Baden Square at 6:00pm. Last year's winners were Michele Flanagan and Hannah Klaassen.
We also have an Art on Loan program where local business can choose from our permanent collection to promote local artists.
We have 3 scholarships available to HS Seniors and College students: Music, Art, and Sue Jean Covacavich.
